The West Highland Way

We will soon be embarking on another hike – this time it’s Katja & Doug.

You will be missed Florence & Smadar!

This time around, and because the Alps are not yet hikeable, we chose to hike the West Highland Way in Scotland. This is a 154 km hike from Milngavie to Fort William. Our start date is April 29. We are in Dublin for a few days before we start. We aim to complete the hike in 8 days with the following plan:

Milngavie to Drymen – 19 km

Drymen to Rowardennan – 24 km

Rowardennan to Inverarnan – 22.5 km

Inverarnan to Tyndrum – 19.5 km

Tyndrum to Inveroran – 14.5 km

Inveroran to Kingshouse – 16 km

Kingshouse to Kinlochleven – 14.5 km

Kinlochleven to Fort Williams – 24 km

We are hoping that the somewhat shorter distances in the middle will give us time to relax and enjoy. We don’t quite know what to expect, except that the Scottish weather can be completely unpredictable. We are prepared.

We chose this time of year because these will be the days of the highest likelihood of sunshine and lowest likelihood that the midges are out yet.

Our luggage will be carried forward, allowing us to hike with just a day pack. Ahhhh!

After our hike we plan to visit friends, family, kids and grandkids in Germany. We also plan to do some hikes with family in the Austrian Alps, though it is beginning to look like hut openings may be delayed due to a deluge of snow late in the season. 🤞

This link provides great information about the hike.

We may not blog daily but family and friends, do check in if you want to come along!
