Day 1: Milngavie to Drymen 19.5 km

Today marks the first day of hiking the West Highland Way. Early this morning we took a 25 minute commuter train from Glasgow to Milngavie (pronounced Mullguy).

The hike was relatively flat. The countryside enchanting and bursting with buds. The sheep are lambing. We started in light rain and by 1 pm it was raining solidly. The good news is that our clothes, shoes and gear held up well.
We entered the vast region of the Lochlomond & The Trossachs National Park toward the end of the day. We will continue to hike through the park for next three days.
Along the way we saw our first honesty box. Baked goods & provisions with an honours payment system.

We arrived in Drymen at 2 pm. Magically, our luggage was at our inn.
As we enter the Highlands and increasingly remote territory we are gathering provisions for tomorrow night’s dinner this afternoon. The weather forecast is not looking good for the next few days. For now, we have a cozy room, wifi and a dinner reservation!
